Campaigns

Each of these campaigns was produced with a team. My role focused mainly on press and media strategy, copywriting, and executive media preparedness, though touched on multiple additional aspects to ensure cohesive messaging across departments.

I Still Believe In Our City

NYC Commission on Human Rights Public Artist in Residence Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya ideated and designed a full subway takeover campaign in response to the sharp increase in anti-Asian hate and violence in NYC during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. In a dark and painful time in the city, Phingbodhipakkiya’s vibrant, defiant, and hopeful art filled the Atlantic Avenue subway station.

“More than an anti-hate campaign, this public awareness initiative is a testament to the beauty and resilience of API communities. It recognizes everything we’ve lived through this year but also speaks to decades-old anti-Asian biases. It’s a reminder that NYC needs us, and that we won’t give up on her.” - Artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya

The team at the Commission worked to launch the public education campaign in November 2020 with an exclusive in the NYT Arts section, organic and paid social media, and an in-person tour with elected officials and reporters.

While Black

The While Black campaign was designed by the NYC Commission on Human Rights to address Black New Yorkers’ experiences facing discrimination and harassment in everyday situations. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the frequency of these incidents, we observed multiple focus groups spanning the experiences of African American, Afro-Latinx, Afro-Carribbean and African New Yorkers. The resulting public education campaign served to provide resources to those experiencing discrimination as well as to educate entities on their responsibilities to prevent harassment and discrimination under the NYC Human Rights Law.
